One of the most common questions we get: "What's a fair price for car detailing in Houston?" The honest answer is — it depends on the service, your vehicle size, and how long it's been since the last detail. Here's a complete breakdown so you know exactly what to expect before you book, including our own published prices so you can compare like for like.
LabShine's Actual Prices (Start Here)
Most detailing sites make you fill out a form before they'll tell you anything. Ours are published, flat, and sized S/M/L so the number you're quoted is the number you pay:
- Full Detail (interior + exterior): $225 / $275 / $325 by vehicle size
- Exterior Standard: from $70
- Interior Standard: from $100
- Paint Correction: from $450
- Paint Enhancement + 7-Year Ceramic: $699 (packages from $550)
- Window Tint: from $150
- Monthly Maintenance Plan: $120/month
Sizes are straightforward: small is a sedan or coupe, medium is a crossover or compact SUV, large is a full-size SUV, truck or van. Full details are on the pricing page.
Houston Car Detailing Price Ranges (2026)
These ranges reflect what legitimate mobile and shop detailers charge in the Houston metro. Prices below this range usually mean shortcuts (no clay bar, no steam, watered-down products). Prices significantly above this range should come with documentation, a warranty, or a premium product explanation.
Full Detail (Interior + Exterior)
- Small car (sedan, coupe): $250–$350
- Mid-size (crossover, compact SUV): $300–$400
- Large (full-size SUV, truck, van): $375–$500
A real full detail includes: hand wash, clay bar decontamination, engine bay, wheel cleaning, iron fallout removal, ceramic spray sealant, steam cleaning the interior, shampooing seats and carpet, leather conditioning, headliner clean, and odor treatment. If your quote doesn't include most of these, it's not a full detail.
Interior Detail Only
- Small: $150–$200
- Mid: $175–$225
- Large: $200–$275
Exterior Detail Only
- Small: $125–$175
- Mid: $150–$200
- Large: $175–$250
Basic Wash & Wax (Maintenance)
- Small: $80–$150
- Mid: $100–$175
- Large: $125–$200
Ceramic Coating Prices in Houston
"How much is ceramic coating near me?" is the question we field most often, and the honest answer is that the spread is enormous because the word "ceramic" covers everything from a $20 spray to a nine-year professional system. Here's the market as it actually breaks down:
- 1–2 year consumer-grade ceramic: $400–$700
- 3–5 year professional ceramic (Gtechniq, SystemX, etc.): $800–$1,500
- 7–9 year crystal-tier ceramic: $1,800–$3,000+
These prices always include at least one stage of paint correction before coating. Any shop that skips paint correction before ceramic is cutting a major corner — defects get permanently sealed in.
Why two ceramic coating quotes can differ by $1,000
When you compare quotes, you are almost never comparing the same job. The four variables that move the number:
- How much correction is included. A quote with no correction is a coating over swirls. A single-stage polish adds hours; a multi-stage correction can double the labor on the job. This is usually the single biggest line item, not the coating itself.
- Which coating, and how many layers. Product cost per vehicle ranges from modest to several hundred dollars, and multi-layer systems take longer to apply and level.
- Vehicle size and paint condition. A Suburban has far more surface area than a Civic, and soft or heavily oxidized paint takes more passes.
- What's included beyond paint. Wheels, wheel faces, glass and trim can all be coated, and each adds real time.
Our current answer to all of this is the Paint Enhancement + 7-Year Ceramic package at $699, which includes a single-stage paint enhancement before the coating goes on — so you are not paying for a coating applied over defects. If your paint needs more than an enhancement, we'll say so before we book you, not after we arrive.
Questions to ask before you pay for any coating
- Is paint correction included, and at what stage? Get the answer in writing.
- What product, and what is the manufacturer's rated durability?
- How long does the vehicle need to stay dry after application?
- What does the maintenance requirement look like, and what voids the protection?
Paint Correction Prices
- Single-stage (light swirls, minor scratches): $300–$500
- Multi-stage (deeper correction, oxidation removal): $600–$1,200
LabShine's paint correction starts at $450. The reason correction can't be quoted sight-unseen is that the price tracks the hours, and the hours track the paint: a two-year-old garage-kept sedan and a six-year-old truck that's been through automatic washes weekly are entirely different jobs on the same size vehicle.
Add-On Services
- Pet hair removal: $50–$100
- Headlight restoration: $60–$100
- Odor elimination (ozone): $75–$120
- Engine bay detail: $50–$100
- Water spot removal: $75–$150
Fleet and Company Vehicle Pricing
Fleet work is priced differently from retail, and if you're getting quoted the retail per-car rate for a fleet, you're being quoted wrong. Three things change the math:
- Volume. Ten vehicles at one address means one setup, one drive, and no downtime between jobs. That efficiency belongs in the price.
- Frequency. A vehicle on a scheduled two-week cycle never gets bad, so each visit is shorter than a one-off rescue detail on a truck that hasn't been touched in a year.
- Scope. Most fleets don't need the full retail detail. They need consistent exterior appearance, clean glass, and an interior that a customer or an employee isn't embarrassed by.
Because those three variables move so much, we quote fleets per vehicle after we know the count, the mix of sizes and the cadence — see fleet detailing and send us your vehicle list for a real number. Guessing at a fleet price on a webpage would be worse than useless to you.
Why Houston Prices Are What They Are
A few things drive Houston detailing costs specifically:
- Vehicle size: Houston is truck country. More surface area = more time = higher price.
- Condition: A car that hasn't been detailed in 2+ years takes significantly longer. Don't be surprised if your detailer charges more for a neglected vehicle.
- Mobile vs shop: Mobile detailing (we come to you) typically costs the same or slightly more than a shop because you're paying for convenience — but you save the time of dropping off and picking up.
- Heat damage: Houston's UV and humidity mean more paint degradation, more interior fading, and more work to restore.
- Hard water: Mineral spotting is close to universal here, and removing etched spots is polishing work, not washing work.
Red Flags: When a Price Is Too Low
If someone quotes you a "full detail" for $80–$100, they're either doing a glorified car wash or they're cutting every corner. Real full details take 4–6 hours minimum. You can't do that properly in under $200.
Other things worth pausing over:
- A quote given over the phone with no questions about vehicle size or condition.
- "Ceramic coating" offered at wash-and-wax prices — that's a spray sealant, and it should be described as one.
- No written list of what's included.
- Pressure to decide on the spot for a "today only" rate.
Look at before/after photos, and make sure the service list is in writing before you book.
What Actually Saves You Money Over Time
The cheapest path in Houston is not the cheapest detail — it's not letting the car get bad in the first place. Etched water spots, oxidized clear coat and baked-in interior odor are all expensive precisely because they are restoration work rather than cleaning work, and all three are largely preventable. A protected car on a regular wash cadence only ever needs routine maintenance visits; an unprotected car eventually needs correction work, which starts at $450 because it is hours of machine polishing rather than an hour of washing. That's the entire argument for the $120/month maintenance plan and for putting protection on the paint early.
