Headlight Restoration
Houston, TX
Headlight restoration in Houston, $120. Oxidation and haze polished out, UV sealant applied — brighter light and a cleaner look, at your driveway.
From $75 per pair
Yellowed headlights are a safety problem before they are a cosmetic one. Polycarbonate lenses oxidise under UV, and Houston delivers more of that than almost anywhere in the country. A hazed lens scatters light instead of projecting it, which can cut usable night-time output dramatically while the bulb itself is working perfectly.
What is actually happening to the lens
Headlight lenses are polycarbonate with a thin factory UV-resistant coating on the outside. That coating is sacrificial — it degrades over years of sun exposure, and once it fails the plastic underneath begins to oxidise. The yellow haze you see is the oxidised layer of the plastic itself, not dirt on top of it.
This is why cleaning them never works, and why the wipe-on kits from an auto parts store fade within months: they polish the oxidation without replacing the UV layer that failed in the first place, so it comes straight back.
How we restore them properly
We wet-sand the lens through a progression of grits to physically remove the oxidised layer, then machine-polish it back to optical clarity. The step that matters is the last one: a fresh UV-resistant sealant over the bare polycarbonate, replacing the factory coating that failed.
Without that final seal a restoration is cosmetic and temporary. With it, the result holds for years rather than months. It is the entire difference between a proper restoration and a parts-store kit.
When restoration is not the answer
If a lens is cracked, has internal moisture, or the oxidation has gone deep enough to pit the surface, restoration will improve it but not fix it — those need replacement. We will tell you that before taking your money rather than after.
Headlight Restoration FAQ
How much does headlight restoration cost in Houston?
From $75 per pair as a standalone mobile service, and less when added to a detail we are already doing. Severely oxidised or unusually large lenses may be slightly more — we will confirm before starting.
How long does it last?
Several years, provided the UV sealant step is done. That is the step cheap restorations skip, which is why those yellow again within months. Ours are sealed as standard.
How long does it take?
About an hour for a pair, and we do it at your home or office while the car sits in the driveway.
Will it pass inspection afterwards?
Restoration commonly resolves the clarity issue behind a failed inspection. If a lens is cracked or has moisture inside it, that is a replacement rather than a restoration and we will say so upfront.
Is it worth doing on an older car?
It is one of the highest-impact things you can do to an older vehicle for the money — it improves night-time visibility and takes years off the front of the car visually. On a car you are about to sell, it is one of the cheapest ways to lift the impression it makes.
